Welcome!
Thank you for visiting the website of the American Society of Forensic Obstetricians and Gynecologists, a special interest group of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. We feel it important that an independent, unbiased professional organization of obstetricians and gynecologists with no connection to plaintiff or defense attorneys, medical malpractice insurance carriers, hospitals, or government agencies exist as a resource to these parties while concurrently acting as an instrument for physician education and a voice for improvement in medical care.
Our Society, the product of a lengthy gestation and prolonged labor, was born in 1993 in Birmingham, Alabama, with Dan Avery simultaneously filling the roles of both mother and midwife. We are dedicated to pursuit of the highest professional standards for medical experts in criminal and civil litigation, clinical practice, hospital care, peer review, arbitration, independent case review, risk management and prevention, and quality management as they relate to obstetrics and gynecology.
The need for such an organization is obvious. Many physicians worldwide have an interest or practice related to the Society's objectives but previously there has been no effective means of promotion, recognition, communication, education, or coordination. The Society intends to change that and our Newsletter is fast becoming a recognized forum for education, exchange of ideas, and expression of opinions from varied sources. Our credibility and utility will rely upon our continued relevance and independence.
Each and every inquiry is appreciated. If I may be of any further service, please do not hesitate to contact me.
